Symptoms follow closely after having an electronic device such as a computer, tablet or phone taken from them, usually by a parent.

FOMO, or Fear Of Missing Out, infects about 90% of kids today. Most parents are immune but will, on occasion, catch the virus. Symptoms manifest themselves in different ways for adults. The symptoms often seen in adults are not being present in the moment, multitasking and generally unpleasant demeanor if not connected to the outside world through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest or Words With Friends.

Our culture is faced paced and if you are offline for even five minutes you may “miss it,” whatever “it” is. It could be

5 Steps To Family Rest

If you are feeling a bit run down or run over due to inflated schedules both yours and your child’s then here are five steps to find a few moments of rest together as a family.

Step 1: Schedule It

Self-explanatory? Not so fast. A friend of mine, Carey Nieuwhof, and I were speaking at a conference together, and while we were eating lunch, we started talking about––of all things––our blogs. During the conversation, he asked me if I had read the book “Platform.” I said, “Yes, it was a great book!” Carey then asked me, “What have you done that has been most useful to you from reading the book?”

What? Apparently, there is a difference in the lives of people who read books and call them good and people who read books and put a few things they’ve read into practice. Schedule rest now. Open your calendar, look forward

Parents: How To Roll Your Worry Away

Have you ever worried about your kids? Dumb question, right? Of course there are times when we have worried or still worry about our children. Here are a few moments when we have worried about our kids.

  • When your kids were born.
  • Their first day of Kindergarten.
  • Their first day of Jr High.
  • Their First day of High School.
  • When they start driving.
  • When they don’t get home when they were supposed to.
  • When they graduate.
  • When they start college.
  • When they start that new job.

Of course there are several other times when worry can be worse. Times when we feel helpless. We may see our children making choices that we know will hurt them or at the very least not help them. We cry, we pray, we hope and...we worry. We desperately want our kids to get through whatever difficulties or challenges they

3 Reasons Why You Aren’t Getting It All Done

There is always something else to do. Another meeting, another appointment, another practice, another game. We have dinner to cook, dishes to clean, a floor to vacuum and bills to pay.

Restlessness, anxiety and worry are often byproducts of the way we live life, which, simply stated is overloaded. There have been times in my life when I would look at my schedule and feel a sense of panic. Rapid heart beat, shortness of breath and a sinking feeling of "How am I going to get it all done?" Questions would bounce around my mind...

  • Why am I always behind?
  • Why can't I ever catch up?
  • Why am I doing this to myself?

The answers to the above questions may vary slightly from person to person however, when it comes to "Getting It All Done," there seems to be a few common denominators that link

5 Elements Every Family Needs To Be Successful + 34 Page Book

Pick up any book on how to build a successful business and you will find a common thread running through all of them. That thread is made up of a vision for the future, a strategic mission statement to help you reach the vision, a set of guiding core values and a few attainable goals. Each of these things are needed if you want to start, grow and flourish as a company.

Now, if you were to walk into a bank tomorrow and apply for a small business loan to get your company going, you would be asked to present your business plan. The bank would want to know what you plan to do with the loan, how you will be profitable, should they give you the loan, and how you plan to repay the loan once you have been approved for it. A successful business is built on some very basic fundamentals. The same is true for our families.

I am convinced that if I had always approached my family with the same principles I approached work, I would have been more successful from the beginning. I don’t know why I never applied the principles

Every Leader & Parent Needs This Tool In Their Belt

I’m sure you have heard it said, “If the only tool you have in your belt is a hammer then everything you see is a nail.” I’m sure as leaders and as parents we have swung the hammer a few times.

Hypothetically speaking, if we could choose one tool to use most frequently when dealing with co-workers, bosses, team members and yes, even our children, what would it be?

Before you run a list or head over to the Home Depot let me offer a suggestion and a few reason why the Crescent Wrench is the best choice.

Parents, Are We Full of It? I Hope So!

I was in Starbucks the other day and when they called out my grade non-fat one pump vanilla latte I went a runnin' to get my beverage. However, in my "hurry" I not only knocked over my drink but another one as well.

I looked at the person with the saddest/maddest look on their face and asked, "What was it?" "It was a venti chai tea latte!" Now, here is the question.

When I bumped my drink and knocked it over, what came out?
The answer, of course, is what it was full of at the time.

When I bumped and knocked the other drink over, What came out?
The answer, again, is what it
The answer, of course, is what each of us
