5 Ways A Leader Makes Those Around Them Better

As I was reading through 1 Peter chapter 5 this morning a question came out of the blue, what is the role of a leader? I know there have been volumes of books and chapters within books that answer this question many times over but what hit me today was not what leaders “do” but who they “are” that makes such a huge difference.

I am not discounting what leaders “do” to make those around them better. I have written enough blogs and books that address this topic. But in the stillness of the “Starbucks Morning Rush” (Sarcasm intended) it hit me. 5 Ways Leaders Make Those Around Them Better and it’s not what they do, it’s who they are.

5 Ways A Leader Makes Those Around Them Better

From 1 Peter 5:2-6 GWT

Be a Shepherd

Verse Two: Be shepherds over the flock God has entrusted to you. Watch over it as God does.”

Be Passionate

Verse Two Continued: “Don't do this because you have to, but because you want to. Don't do it out of greed, but out of a desire to serve.”

Be an Example

Verse Three & Four: “Don't be rulers over the people entrusted to you, but be examples for the flock to follow. Then, when the chief shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”

Be a Servant

Verse Five: “Young people, in a similar way, place yourselves under the authority of spiritual leaders. Furthermore, all of you must serve each other with humility, because God opposes the arrogant but favors the humble."

Be Humble

Verse Six: Be humbled by God's power so that when the right time comes he will honor you.”
