7 Attitudes To Keep You Soaring

Did you know that your attitude will effect your altitude? If you aren’t sure about that then the next time you board an airplane take a look into the flight deck. Better yet, ask the pilot what attitude the plane is in at the moment!

No, you won’t get a laugh. You will most likely get a smile and kind response from the pilot. They may say something like, “right now the plane has a pretty level attitude.” If you have a clever and creative pilot they may say something like this. “Well, last time I checked the plane had a level attitude but, to be honest, the plane is a little unpredictable. Ask me in about 30 minutes and I bet the attitude will have changed.”

What? Are you telling me a plane has attitude? Yes, that's what I am telling you. If you look close, right there in the middle of the instrument panel, there is a gauge that’s appropriately called the Attitude Indicator. This instrument is responsible for giving the pilot feedback about the planes attitude.

The attitude of a plane shows the relationship of the nose of the airplane to the horizon. If the nose of the airplane is above the horizon the pilot would call that a nose up attitude.  If the nose of the aircraft is below the horizon the pilot would call that a nose down attitude. If the plane is parked at the gate it would have a level attitude.

The attitude indicator gives the pilot feedback about how the aircraft is performing. In a similar way, our face, our words, and our emotions are an indicator of how we are performing. I’m sure all of us want to maintain a healthy flight pattern with our attitudes so with that in mind, here are 7 attitudes to keep you soaring!

7 Attitudes To Keep You Soaring

1. Determination: A relentless will to continue toward your purpose.
“So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won't let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us.” Romans 12:1 CEV

Bonus 1. Persistence: Continuing to move forward in spite of opposition.
(I think there is a subtle difference between determination and persistence)
“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9 NLT

2. Optimistic: Seeing a silver lining in every situation.
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 NASB

3. Ambitious: Showing initiative & ready to take the first step.
“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Colossians 3:23 NLT

4. Courageous: To face fear and win.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7NLT

5. Humility: Being modest in your opinion of yourself.
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3 NLT

6. Adaptability: Able to change your mind, will, and emotions to fit the situation.
“When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22 NLT
