One of the most important things you can do with your family is eat together. The reasons?

  • It Gets the Family Sitting
  • It Gets the Family Connecting
  • It Gets the Family Talking

When we first started having our family eat together on a consistent basis it wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be. We started with three strong willed, openly opinionated and verbally blessed children around the table. On the first attempt we met with some resistance. “Why are we doing this?” “Are we in trouble?” “What’s the point?” These were just a few of the expressions we heard.

With that in mind we decided to put a little effort into the "dining" experience. We started thinking about it more as an event, a mindset that helped us plan a little better. We realized that leaving the conversation up to chance was a little bit like tossing a balloon into a hurricane.

So, from our experience we came up with several ideas that would allow our family to enjoy eating together while accomplishing our three goals to get everyone sitting, connecting and talking. Mary wrote the Dinner Game, we introduced Table Topics and we wrote 52 phrases to get our family talking. Here are 11 of those phrases to get your family talking this week.
