While listening to one of the most notable rock bands of the century, Boston, I began to realize that most of the lyrics to their songs are talking about life’s struggles, passions and overcoming difficulty.
Several of their songs are worthy of a leadership blog but for today I want to take a look at one song in particular that talks to us as visionaries and leaders. The song reminds us to be content or, as the band says, To Have A Peace of Mind!
1. BE CONTENT WITH WHERE YOU ARE
Now if you're feelin' kinda low 'bout the dues you've been paying
Future's coming much too slow
And you wanna run but somehow you just keep on stayin'
Can't decide on which way to go
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I understand about indecision
But I don't care if I get behind
People livin' in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind.
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
2. BE CONTENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
Now you're climbin' to the top of the company ladder
Hope it doesn't take too long
Can't cha see there'll come a day when it won't matter
Come a day when you'll be gone
I understand about indecision
But I don't care if I get behind
People livin' in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have. Hebrews 13:5b NIV
3. BE CONTENT WITH WHO YOU ARE
Now everybody's got advice they just keep on givin'
Doesn't mean too much to me
Lot's of people out to make-believe they're livin'
Can't decide who they should be.
I understand about indecision
But I don't care if I get behind
People livin' in competition
All I want is to have my peace of mind.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Questions:
1. What keeps you from being content?
2. How will you begin to think differently as leader to have a “Peace of Mind” today?
